New Quad Core Imac worth the wait

27-inch Core i5 iMac (with Core i7 option)

Top-of-the-line iMac takes the crown as fastest stock Mac model ever

by James Galbraith, Macworld.com

When Apple announced new iMacs last month, it included a major step forward amid the subtle-but-welcome refinements in most of the models: the first ever iMac to offer a quad-core processor. The new high-end 27-inch iMacs are the first to use Intel’s Core i5 and Core i7 quad-core processors, and they were not available at the time of the announcement. But finally, the wait is over, and the Core i5 and Core i7 27-inch iMacs have arrived—and let me tell you, it was worth the wait.

NeoOffice 3.0 is now available

its developers are boasting about the following features not found in the current release of OpenOffice for Mac:

  • OS X Services support
  • Media Browser support
  • Native floating tool windows
  • Magnify and swipe trackpad gestures
  • Menus available when no documents are open
  • Import images from scanners and cameras
  • Command-clicking on window titlebar
  • Mac OS X Leopard grammar checking support

A more in-depth look at these features can be found here. The suite is a fantastic alternative to paying full price for Microsoft Office and has come a long way in the past few years.

NeoOffice 3.0 is a universal binary and requires OS X 10.4 or higher, 512 MB of RAM and 400 MB of free disk space. Please note that Universal Access support from OpenOffice is not available on NeoOffice at this time, so using OpenOffice, Microsoft Office, or iWork is suggested to access that feature. A token donation is requested of all downloaders to help support the project.

TUAW NeoOffice 3 available for download originally appeared on The Unofficial Apple Weblog (TUAW) on Tue, 31 Mar 2009 11:00:00 EST.

ZeusDraw 1.3.3

ZeusDraw 1.3.3

zdbigbrushscreenshothalfsize

ZeusDraw is a drawing program with a fluid, graceful interface. It has a different, more intuitive approach to paths (Bezier curves) and great brushes. Quartz and Cocoa let ZeusDraw show you what you are doing, as you do it. When you move or rotate an object, you see the object move or rotate, not its bounding box. When you draw with a brush, you see a close approximation to the final brush stroke as you draw, not a dotted line that is filled in later. Features:

* Both vector brushes and textured, pixel-based brushes that remain objects that can be selected, edited (path and attributes), moved, scaled and rotated

* Easy to use path tools. Points are entered in order and can be edited at any time while the path is being created. When editing, all points are immediately editable – there is no confusing secondary selection tool.

* Gradients can be edited live, in-place on the objects they fill.

* Multi-Copy tool to place multiple copies along a line, an arc, a circle or a path.

* No text boxes. ZeusDraw has in-place editing of text, even if it has been scaled sheared or rotated.

* Construction and layout aids: Snap to Grid, Snap to Path, Snap to Point, Snap to Angle and automatic alignment guides.

* By gesture or by the numbers. ZeusDraw allows precise setting of the size and position of objects.

* Actual size viewing. With ZeusDraw 100% means 100%.

* No size limits. If you’re making a banner or a billboard, ZeusDraw will work for you.

* E-mail artwork from within the program.

* Color Picker. ZeusDraw adds a pane to the Color Picker to allow you to choose from a grid of closely related colors.

If Paul Giamatti is not the poorest casting choice
as American Revolutionary John Adams.
Please tell me if you have a worse casting choice.
